The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs recently presented
Indira Freitas Johnson’s new installation
Lifetime Offer, Dimensions Variable
August 4-October 7
Indira Freitas Johnson’s work continues to deal with the same issues that have preoccupied her for the last two decades – the growth towards a spiritual existence as an individual and as part of the human continuum.
By re-using mundane discarded objects, such as bedsprings, and combining them with partial Buddha heads, symbolic of the spiritual, she imbues them with renewed meaning and energy, thus bringing the idea of sacredness to everyday life.
Over the summer 2007, Johnson's work was included in a group exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art (Upon an Ether Sea: Water and Ship Imagery from the MCA Collection, May 26 - September 9, 2007) and in the project room at Walsh Gallery, Chicago. (The Uncertainty of Truth, July 20 - October 13, 2007).
