Installation
Most of my installations occupy the space between tradition and the evolution of that tradition with new and varied experiences. They explore the rituals and processes that connect us to the cyclical rhythm of birth, growth, death and re-birth.
These installation works are labor intensive, recalling parallel rituals performed the world over; daily chores involved with gathering, preparing, nurturing. Ordinary objects found in most neighborhoods in the normal cycle of life and re-birth are, combined with those discarded by our throwaway attitudes. Re-introduced into society, and presented in this ritualistic format, their energy is recycled and the idea of the sacredness of everyday life is confirmed.

CONTAINERS OF SPACE
While visiting family along the Northern coast of Sweden I saw these giant kelp strands that had been carried to shore by the tide. Their graceful beauty was camouflaged as they shriveled and dried in the sun amongst the other debris that lay along the tide line. Kelp provides a nourishing and protective structure where a wide variety of sea life can grow and flourish.
Washing the kelp in the sea brought them back to their original fluid sensuousness and allowed me to wrap the long strands into small circular forms to become Containers of Space. Arranged in a mandala pattern of two triangles one with its apex pointing towards the sun and the other towards the earth they represent the two great male and female energy forms. The space within invites our individual thoughts and ideas.

PROCESS OF KARMA
Each piece in the Process of Karma installation shows a different aspect of managing one’s personal destiny. Arranged into basic geometric constructs - circles, squares, and triangles, they represent symbols of different energies in the universe and the qualities contained in the three aspects of all life; creation, evolution, and dissolution.
Ritual Indian Art was meant to demonstrate the essential unity between the microcosm and the macrocosm. Science has confirmed this unity. All that exists in the universe must also exist in the individual. The Process of Karma installation promotes this holistic concept, for the potential to be whole or complete exists in the structure of all things.
